OLIVIER MARCEAU STARS IN TRI STAR EVENT –REGGIE DOUGLAS HOLDS NINTH SPOT
Oliver Marceau raced away from everyone else to secure a handsome victory in the Tri star Nevis 111 triathlon event. The much anticipated, second annual international event was held in Nevis on Saturday 31st March.
From all reports, the Police and other security persons received generally good cooperation from members of the general public in terms of traffic control and in ensuring that the riders and runners were safe, while on the island’s main road.
The course included a swim from across Gallows Bay to the Charlestown Dock and Marceau who had placed second in the event last year, was first out of the water and first to his bike. The bike course involved a grueling three laps throughout Nevis, along the island’s main road. This Marceau completed at a rapid clip and then the run which included a run through Bath Village and back across Gallows Bay to the finish line. His closest challenger throughout was second placer, Chris Meewes of the USA just about 7 minutes behind him
Quite a lot of spectators showed up in Charlestown for the event, while others were privileged enough to remain at home and watch the bikers and in some instances, the runners go by. At the finish line, there was even a cheer leading team, complete with pom-poms.
Nevis’ own top gun; Reggie Douglas remained steady throughout and clinched the ninth spot and third spot in the Pro level, much to the jubilation of his ever increasing fan club.
