SK Triathlon Fall Series Concludes.
The last race in the St Kitts fall triathlon mini-series was completed on Saturday afternoon in Frigate bay, the Nevis contingent of 18 had the luxury of being collected on Nevis and taken to the race site, courtesy of Mr X Watersports, a wonderful start to a successful day, the team comprised of individual and relay team participants, with many of the TNCTC youth members present.
The course included a 650mtr swim, 20km Bike and 5km run, and hosted by the St Kitts triathlon association, once all the athletes had completed their preparations, event organizer Charles Lovrics gave the signal to start the swim leg, it was a very fast swim with ideal conditions for racing, Reggie Douglas coming out of the water in second place behind a relay team racer, and ahead of James Weekes and Alex Isles, his main competition on this race day.
For the juniors it was clear that Shaun Brear was going to have a good day, as was Sasha Lloyd, both of them coming out of the water in a good position, due to the length of the swim most of the other juniors were doing the Bike/run portions in the relay team section, the Nevis masters being represented ably by Jaime Holmes and Paula Price.
The 20km bike leg was two laps from Frigate bay to the airport roundabout, a technical and challenging course that was a real test for all involved, best time being set by young Assim Chapman, riding for a relay team, outdoing former national Champion and mentor Reggie, with Shaun posting 3rd best time of the day. For the women it was Sasha Lloyd setting the best bike time outdoing St Kitts laura Talaga by a mere 9 seconds.
Reggie was ahead coming into the run section, a 5km course heading into Half Moon Bay that was a real test of the legs for most of the attending athletes, Kat Brownsdon of St Kitts set the overall best time of the days runs with a time of 22:26, followed by current national Triathlon Champion James, and Reggie, however Reggies lead off the bike allowing him to romp home unmolested once again to finish in 1:09:47, james taking 2nd and Shaun with a gutsy performance to take 3rd male overall. In the womens race once again laura proved too strong for her competition taking 1st once again in 1:29:15, Sasha coming in a very credible 2nd and St Kitts Heather Napolitano in 3rd. The relay team results saw the combined might of Kat, Assim and D. Smithen finishing in the top spot in a combined time of 1:14:52.
It was a great afternoon of racing, and we would like to thank the organizing team of St Kitts for putting on another good race, and we look forward to hosting them on Nevis on the 18th Dec.
This will be for the 2nd event in the FLY sponsored Nevis mini series, a 1km Run, 10km Bike, 2km Run Duathlon, which will hopefully tempt a few more athletes to get ready for the big race in April.
special thanks again to Mr X and his crew for making our journey so pleasant and stress free.
