Sasha Takes A First At SXM Triathlon
Sasha’s only previous triathlon experience had been during the Nevis Triathlon where she had competed twice in the shorter Try-A-Tri category, however, since then she has been developing her swim bike and run talents under the guidance of 4 time OECS triathlon Champion Reggie Douglas, which stood her in good stead as she raced abroad for the first time.
Both Sasha and her dad put on sterling performances in the event with Sasha knocking almost 3 mins off her previous best time for a 750 mtr swim, followed by a fierce bike leg where she posted the 11th fastest bike split of the 39 athletes involved in the Sprint, a wonderful achievement. Sasha completed the whole course in a very credible time of 1:37:27. This put Sasha in 1st for her age group and 5th overall in the womens category, fantastic!!, Matt meanwhile was also having a great race, just missing out on the podium in 4th place in his age group, finshing 15th overall in a time of 1:25:25.
Matt Lloyd, who is the current President of the Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club commented “It was an incredibly proud moment for me to watch my daughter Sasha come in with the Nevis flag held out for the TV and news cameras, the youngest competitor and winner of the junior age group. Well Done Sasha”
Sasha, very excited after her race said “My first ever experience in a triathlon was great! the St Marten Boardwalk triathlon 2010 was the first ever sprint of that distance I ever did and I thank Winston for giving me that opportunity and believing that I can finish it. I would also like to thank Reggie for training me and everyone who supported me”
SKN Triathlon Federation President had this to say “ It was wonderful to see Sasha perform so well, she is the eldest of our young triathletes and the first to compete away at this distance, she represented her country and club in fine style, congratulations Sasha”
