Miami Tropical 5km By Sarah Williams
The Miami Tropical 5k is a race that offers its proceeds to help the homeless of Miami.
Stanley and I decided that this would be the perfect start to our weekend in Miami. We fuelled carefully knowing that with the marathon the next day we would have to do this just right. We left the hotel at 6am on the shuttle to the Miami Childrens Museum and headed into an already busy starting area. The start of the race overlooked the ocean and a long line of cruise ships all docked in the harbour. The race was over 2 bridges which gave us spectacular views of the harbour as we ran along the shores of south beach. Within the first mile our legs started to stretch out after yesterdays flight, knowing that we half 26.2 tomorrow meant that todays 3.1 had to be taken easy. The atmosphere was great as we ran alongside people of all shapes and sizes all there celebrating for their own reasons, many running their first road race and it was a great experience to share with them.
Having never run this distance with such a large crowd it was a very different experience but one we will be enjoying again I am sure.
