Team St.Kitts & Nevis at Cycling World Championships
Mendrisio- Switzerland Sept. 22nd 2009
All the top male & female cyclists in the world have gathered to compete for the title of World champion, in the disciplines of Individual Time Trial and Road Racing, amongst them were the contingent from St Kitts & Nevis. Reggie Douglas and Kathryn Bertine the reigning male and female National Cycling Champions, were joined by James Weekes and Monica Ceccon.
The whole expedition was made possible due to the largesse of Bio-Sport/ FLY, the new sports hydration drink that the team trains on, and Oscar Petroboni and family who have housed the whole team.
Even before the actual race events have begun, the team was making its presence felt, on the first training ride they happened upon Fabian Cancellara, the Swiss National TT champion, and rode with him as long as they were able to keep his pace. The following day during the TT practice on a closed course, the guys were stopped by the Norwegian TV news crew, .who were clearly interested to determine who they were and conducted on camera interviews about their country of origin and the state of cycling in the Nation.
The schedule of events which is being aired live on Eurosport is as follows:-
WEDNESDAY 23rd 2.00pm ELITE FEMALE IND. TT (Kathryn/Monica)
THURSDAY 24th 11.30am ELITE MALE IND. TT (Reggie/James)
SATURDAY 26th 9.00am ELITE FEMALE ROAD RACE (Kathryn/Monica)
