'Boardwalk' Triathlon St Martin 2009
"My first Olympic triathlon experience was fantastic! After riding the bike course Saturday afternoon, I was very nervous about the St-Maarten traffic and confronting the dangerous downhill 4 times, but was later told that the police were closing off the road and the traffic early on Sunday morning should be minimal…feeeww. Sunday morning came with the alarm blaring at 5am, roll out of bed , look outside… it’s raining! Great. We biked down to the Boardwalk and you could feel the buzz of energy in the air, everyone was excited lots of young people around and I knew that this was a well organized a valued event by this triathlon community. On your mark get set go… and we were off! I was a little surprised with initial feet and hands in my face but quickly fell into my rhythm and managed to pull out of the 1500 m swim. Off to the bike, 1st lap…2nd lap…3rd lap uh oh I have a flat and I don’t know how to change it, what to do? So I finished the lap rushed back into transition where I was given another wheel. I finished the 4th lap and then rushed into the run. The run course was up and down the boardwalk which made for a very flat, hot but encouraging run! I was so encouraged that I managed to do an extra half a lap before realizing I had gone too far. I had a great experience shared with a bunch of wonderful people! "
