2nd Individual Time Trial 28th Feb
A total of 31 cyclists were in attendance at Oualie Beach Hotel on Saturday afternoon, with 15 of them part of the junior cycling program, all were set to race against the clock to see how their training was paying off.
The youngest Cadet riders were covering a 10km course to Cotton Ground and back, with everyone else on the 19km course which had their turnaround next to TDC at Pinneys estate. All of the junior riders resplendent in their new cycling shoes and uniforms that had recently been donated by th cycling community of Tucson, Arizona.
With the athletes starting off at one minute intervals, and so many riders present, the first racers were already starting to come back in before the last riders got to start, first of the early finishers with very fast times indeed were the Cadets. Leading the fray was an up and coming talent from Cotton Ground Devon Jeffers, who seems to win every race he turns up to, following in 2nd place was Michael Loncke and in 3rd was lone female Cadet Andrea Brear.
The next category to finish were the Juniors lead in by Shaun Brear in 1st, Royston Queeley 2nd and Assim Chapman in third, in the Junior Female event the top spot was taken by Jessica Amory in 31:20, followed by Adjua Lloyd in 2nd, in the Masters category Tom Dutton took top honors followed by Jamie Holmes and an ever improving Frank Ashley in 3rd..
The Elite women were also setting some superb times over the course, led by Kristina Stoney in 1st with a time of 24:48 that placed her 4th overall, in second was Laura Talaga of St Kitts followed by Valerie Smithen in 3rd. For the Elite mens event it was Reggie Douglas who stole the march on time trial specialist James Weekes this event in a scorching time of 22:03, putting James into 2nd followed by Winston Crooke in 3rd.
