Ride of Silence - Nevis
Members of the Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club, youths from Jessups All Stars Club and a number of other riders, 30 in all, met at the TDC car park in Charlestown to take part in the first 'RIDE OF SILENCE' in the Caribbean. The ride is organised to honor and remember the cylists all over the world killed or injured by motorists, started in 2003 in Dallas after the death of cyclist Larry Schwartz, this event has spread to 150 locations, 5 countries and 4 continents, arriving now in Nevis. Wearing black armbands, the riders were escorted by a police car on a silent three lap tour around the centre of Charlestown, the youngest rider Chantal Rigby and the oldest Paula price. It was a very special event witnessed by many persons in town, who were handed leaflets explaining the purpose of the gathering, and all the motor vehicles that passed through town at this time were respectful of the assembled group. After completing the ride a few solemn words were spoken in remembrance of the numerous victims of car accidents.
